The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has announced that Qatar’s 2026-2027 winter camping season will start on October 25 and continue until April 20. Registration will open on October 11 through the ministry’s website and the Bee’ah application. Qatar Tribune

Ministry officials announced the arrangements at a press conference, explaining that registration will be organised in three phases based on the geographical distribution of camping areas. The central region will be open for registration from October 11 to 13, followed by the southern region from October 14 to 16, and the northern region from October 17 to 21. Registration for all areas will then reopen from October 22 to 31. Qatar Tribune

Hamad Salem Al Nuaimi, Director of the Wildlife Protection Department and Head of the Winter Camping Committee, said the arrangements for this season were developed after reviewing last season’s experience and observations recorded by specialised field teams. The measures are intended to improve organisation, strengthen compliance and protect camping locations that experience heavy use during the winter months.

Al Nuaimi said dividing registration into phases would help manage demand and make the booking process easier. The first phase covers the inland camping areas of Umm Al Afaei, Umm Al Azam, Rawdat Rashid and Rawdat Aisha, as well as the coastal camping areas of South Al Kharaij and Abu Samra. Qatar Tribune

During the second phase, registration for Sealine will open on October 14. On October 15, applications will open for Al Kharara (Jaww Al Banat), Afja Muaither, Al Naqian, Mekaines and Al Udeid, while all camping areas in the southern region will be available for registration on October 16. The third phase will start on October 17, covering the inland camping areas of Al Sanaa and Al Utouriya, together with Al Reem Reserve among the camping locations within nature reserves. On October 18, registration will open for the inland areas of Al Khor, North Al Thakhira, Al Waab, Ras Matbakh and Arida.

On October 19, registration will open for Al Mazroua, Bu Thaila, Saina Al Humaidi and Wadi Al Duhoul, along with the coastal camping area of Ras Al Nouf. On October 20, registration will begin for Al Shamal, Al Ghishamiya, Ain Mohammed and Wadi Al Duhoul, as well as the coastal areas of Abu Dhalouf and Al Zubara. Registration will conclude on October 21 with the opening of the coastal camping area of Al Maroona. Qatar Tribune

Al Nuaimi said the camping regulations have also been updated this season, particularly regarding motorcycles. The revised rules completely prohibit the use or operation of motorcycles in all green arable land areas, locally known as rawd, as well as in all camping areas between 10pm and 5am. He said the measures are intended to protect wildlife, preserve vegetation and safeguard the natural characteristics of the rawd.

He added that the camping regulations are intended to provide visitors with a safe and well-organised environment while protecting inland and coastal locations from activities that could negatively affect them. Field monitoring, he said, would not focus solely on identifying violations but would also be used to raise awareness, provide guidance and encourage responsible use of camping sites.

The Head of the Winter Camping Committee said the ministry would continue strengthening the presence of field teams at various locations throughout the season. Modern tools and technologies will also be used for monitoring and inspection to help teams identify and address observations while preserving natural sites. Qatar Tribune

Dr Farhoud Hadi Al Hajri, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, said the winter camping season has particular importance in Qatari society because of its connection with social culture and the community’s relationship with the desert and nature.

Al Hajri said the ministry would conduct a range of awareness programmes and activities during the camping season for campers and visitors to inland areas. These initiatives will promote sound environmental practices, protection of inland and coastal locations, preservation of vegetation and wildlife, proper waste management and cleanliness at camping sites.

He said the awareness campaign would combine direct engagement with campers and educational material distributed through the ministry’s digital platforms to ensure environmental messages reach the widest possible audience.

Al Hajri also noted that the ministry had recently introduced initiatives to strengthen protection of the local environment, including efforts to rehabilitate rawd, preserve vegetation, inland and coastal areas and natural habitats, and increase public awareness of biodiversity protection. He said these efforts would be reinforced during the camping season.

According to Al Hajri, last season recorded strong demand, with a total of 2,991 camps. These included 1,304 inland camps, 440 coastal camps and 1,247 camps in nature reserves. He said the figures reflected the importance of the camping season to the community while highlighting the need to continue developing procedures and services for campers.

Regarding electronic services, Aisha Mohammed Al Muhaiza, Head of the Infrastructure and Project Management Section at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, said the ministry had upgraded the winter camping season registration system and its technical infrastructure. The improvements are intended to increase system efficiency and stability, strengthen its readiness to receive applications and make registration procedures easier for citizens.

She urged campers to ensure beforehand that their accounts on the National Authentication System are activated and that their information is up to date, as these accounts are required to access the camping registration system. When accessing the camping system for the first time, applicants must enter the expiry date of their Qatari ID card so their information can be verified before completing registration.

Al Muhaiza said the ministry had also updated information on categories eligible for exemption from fee payments, including retirees and persons with disabilities, in coordination with the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority and the Ministry of Social Development and Family. The coordination is intended to ensure that the information recorded in the system is accurate.

She added that illustrative images of camping areas had been introduced after the areas were redivided. Campers will therefore be able to view an image of their selected location during the registration process and before completing payment. The option to select a previous inland camping location has also been removed for the current season.

Al Muhaiza further explained that the permit fee and security deposit must be paid immediately after booking. A booking will be considered cancelled if the required payment is not made.

The registration system will also automatically cancel incomplete applications if the user closes the browser before finishing the procedures or if the registration session expires.
