Oman has expressed interest in recruiting 10,000 workers from Bangladesh, opening a new employment opportunity for Bangladeshi nationals as Dhaka and Muscat seek to expand labour cooperation.

The proposed recruitment will be divided equally between two sectors, with Oman seeking 5,000 agricultural workers and 5,000 fisheries workers, according to Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.

Agreement Signed on Recruitment Plan

Islam said an agreement covering the recruitment initiative has already been signed between the two sides.

She announced the development after a meeting with Al Sayyid Mohammed Salim Ali Al Said, a member of Oman’s Royal Family, at Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry in Dhaka.

The Omani royal family member also acknowledged the contribution Bangladeshi expatriates have made to Oman’s development and economic activities during the meeting.

Omani Delegation Expected in Bangladesh

Representatives of the Omani government are expected to visit Bangladesh in October 2026 to discuss how the recruitment programme will be implemented.

During the planned visit, Omani officials are expected to hold talks with the relevant Bangladeshi ministry and authorities to finalise operational details of the recruitment process.

Further information on application procedures, recruitment agencies, salaries, eligibility requirements and deployment dates had not been detailed in the announcement.

Bangladesh Seeks Wider Access to Oman Labour Market

The development comes as Bangladesh continues diplomatic efforts to restore broader employment opportunities for its citizens in Oman.

Visa restrictions have affected some categories of Bangladeshi workers in recent years. Earlier in 2026, Bangladesh also raised the issue of reopening opportunities for unskilled and semi-skilled workers during discussions with Oman’s Labour Ministry.

Dhaka is seeking to increase the number of workers travelling to Oman through regular migration channels while also placing greater emphasis on technical education, skills development and overseas deployment of qualified workers.

Islam said Bangladesh had highlighted skilled migration in its discussions with Oman, with both countries exploring further cooperation in the labour sector.

Oman Remains Major Destination for Bangladeshi Workers

Oman has long been an important labour destination for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh government figures presented in parliament in April 2026 showed that more than 1.65 million Bangladeshi workers had travelled to Oman between 2004 and April 8, 2026, making it one of the largest Middle Eastern destinations for Bangladeshi migrant workers.

The latest recruitment proposal could create new opportunities in agriculture and fisheries if the implementation process proceeds as planned.

Prospective workers should wait for official recruitment notices from the relevant Bangladesh and Omani authorities before submitting documents or making payments to recruiters.
