Saudi Arabia Prepares 400 Buses and 200-Bed Hospital for Pilgrims

The Royal Commission for Mecca City and the Holy Sites has announced comprehensive preparations for the Hajj season of 1446 AH, focusing on enhancing infrastructure, transportation, and health services.

Key Initiatives

Transportation Enhancements

• Mecca Buses System:
  • 400 buses will operate on 12 routes, covering 431 stops and four central stations from the 15th of Dhu Al Qa’dah to the 30th of Dhu Al Hijjah.
  • The plan aims to improve operational efficiency in high-density areas through coordination with the General Transport Syndicate.
• Mecca Taxi Service: High-capacity locations for taxis have been allocated, with operations managed through contracts for reliability.

Health and Safety Services

• 200-Bed Hospital: A new hospital in Mina, complemented by 71 emergency centers along pilgrimage routes for first aid and logistical support.
• Pedestrian Path in Muzdalifah: A designated 170,000 square meter path with rubber flooring and 10,000 trees planted to provide shade and reduce heat stress.

Comfort and Accessibility

• Rest Areas: Shaded seating areas and 400 new water coolers have been installed to ensure pilgrims have constant access to water.
• Accommodation Improvements: Two-storey tent units and multi-storey restrooms have been constructed to enhance housing services and improve space distribution.

Innovative Transportation Options

• Electric Scooter Service: Continuing from last year, this service will have three dedicated routes to support light transportation for pilgrims during rituals.

Media Campaign

The Royal Commission has launched a media campaign for the 1446 Hajj season to showcase these projects and initiatives, providing documented content on the various stages of Hajj.
