Al Janoub Stadium to be Transformed into a Premier Basketball Arena for FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027

In a landmark development for global sports, Al Janoub Stadium is poised to undergo a transformative renovation, emerging as a premier basketball arena for the highly anticipated FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027.
This prestigious tournament will kick off with its inaugural game on August 27, 2027, culminating in a grand finale at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall on September 12, 2027.

The Local Organizing Committee has confirmed that Al Janoub Stadium, alongside three other elite venues Lusail Multipurpose Hall, Duhail Sports Hall, and Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena will host a total of 92 thrilling games.
To foster a unified and immersive atmosphere, these venues will be temporarily rebranded as Lusail Arena, Duhail Arena, Al Attiyah Arena, and Al Janoub Arena during the tournament.
This momentous occasion marks the first time in FIBA Basketball World Cup history that games will be held in a stadium traditionally designed for football.

With a seating capacity exceeding 8,000, Al Janoub Arena will not only reflect Qatar’s dedication to sustainability but also symbolize the nation’s forward-thinking approach to integrating diverse sporting events.
